At the age of three I began to draw like every child, without any shyness:
My family: Baselmans (father) - Verhoeven (mother) Both of them were creative.
My grandfather (father's side) was a textile designer like my father,
but my father was also creative in many other areas.
We talked a lot about drawings and everything that was important for me to know about art.
My grandfather (mother's side) was a man with a lot of hobbies
and he did everything he wanted to do.
I learned music (violin and piano) from him as well as photography - development, etc.
He taught me 'how to see' in order to create drawings and paintings.
There are many things to learn in our world around us.
My grandfather died too soon for me and with his death my teacher was
gone and my world was empty and lonely (I thought).
The best thing that ever happened was around my 15th birthday.
When my father began to redraw an old drawing of my grandfather's.
Pen & Ink was not my father's 'forte'.
As I observed him working with that medium on paper, and after many mistakes,
I took his pen out of his hand and made my first pen drawing.
Six years later I made the 'De Nachtwacht' (The Nightwatch) of Rembrandt van Rijn.
From my father I learned woodcarving, clay, painting
and a lot of other techniques that I still use today.
